Mercury – Grand Canon Entry…
The nights are the worst.
Not because they are cold.
Not because silence unsettles me.
But because Heaven shines the brightest when the world below finally grows dark enough to notice it.
I can still see the gates sometimes.
Barely.
A flicker above the clouds like distant gold beneath deep water.
And I cannot return to it.
Not anymore.
I tell myself I made the correct choice. Silas needed my power. Without it, Michael would have slaughtered all of us without hesitation. There are moments I can still hear his wings tearing through the air. Still hear the screams beneath the cathedral ceiling. Still see that terrible light burning through stone and flesh alike.
So yes.
I gave my grace away willingly.
And yet there are nights where regret creeps into me like winter through cracked glass.
An angel without Heaven is a strange thing.
You begin to wander.
At first I hated the living world. Humans move so quickly. They love temporary things. They build cities knowing time will erase them. They cling to one another despite knowing death waits patiently nearby.
But over time, I began to understand them.
Loss makes beauty matter.
I still possess fragments of what I once was. A trickle of power remains inside me, though using it feels like dragging broken bones through my soul. Teleportation is possible in short distances if I focus hard enough.
Most nights, I travel alone.
Tokyo.
London.
The frozen mountains of Norway.
The empty highways stretching through Nevada.
But there is one place I return to more than the others.
The Grand Canyon.
Arizona feels endless at night.
The canyon itself resembles an old wound carved into the earth by God Himself. The wind moves softly there. The stars appear closer. Sometimes I sit near the cliffs until sunrise and pretend I am still immortal.
No battles.
No prophecy.
No Michael.
Only silence.
Only the sound of the desert breathing beneath me.
Strangely enough, it is the closest thing to peace I have found since losing Heaven.
Perhaps exile changes a person.
Or perhaps suffering simply teaches angels how to appreciate stillness.
Either way, I think I understand humans far more now than I ever did above the clouds.
They survive because they learn to keep going after losing pieces of themselves.
I suppose I am trying to do the same.

She wants to spend forever with him, though she’s unsure this will turn out this way…
After maintaining an online relationship for months, Silas moves in with his brother in Alaska, in order to make things official with his lover. Things go as planned, until a deal is made with a vengeful angel that wants to rewrite all of God’s work – this being the creations on earth. Believing this to be a purification, a tragic event occurs that forces the brothers to stand against this angel. This angel being the most powerful angel in creation. The Archangel, Michael.
